Chapter Thirtee

​Rylee wasn't sure how long it was before she fell asleep, but it was the feel of Skylar moving from where the two fell asleep together on the sofa which woke her. Each time she felt her sister push against her or try to find her way off the sofa, Rylee felt more aware of what happened on the sofa. Saying nothing to her sister, Rylee helped her sister escape until the two were on their feet and facing one another.

​“Sorry, Ry. I didn't mean to wake you.”

​“It's okay, Skylar. Want me to fix you something to eat since we're both awake?”

​“Please. But first there's something I have to take care of, which is why I tried to get off the sofa without waking you.”

​Thinking she knew what Sky needed to do, Rylee focused her attention on the coffeemaker in the kitchen, needing the jolt of energy from the drink to help wake her further. Rylee worked on heating another pot of oatmeal for her sister while fixing the usual eggs and toast she made for herself each morning, knowing cooking eggs and making toast wouldn't take much time. This way Rylee always had time to spend with her sister so they could eat together.

​Sliding the bowl of oatmeal across the table towards her sister once Skylar made her way out of the bathroom and to the place where she sat when Skylar claimed her seat at the table, Rylee dug into her breakfast. The topics the two shared with one another while they woke further and filled their stomachs were not important ones and the two siblings only talked with one another to make sure the only sounds coming from them were the sounds of the two eating the different meals Rylee fixed for them.

​Once she saw Skylar push her empty bowl away, Rylee looked up from her plate of food as she heard her sister say, “What do you have planned today, Rylee?”

​“Why are you asking, Sky? Is there something you want to do together?”

​“Yes. I want to get out of the apartment, but I know you won't leave my side if I do. So, I'm asking if you have the time.”

​“Sky, you know you don't have to ask me to spend time with you. I always have time for my younger sister. Are you going to tell me what you have in mind? I'm sure you've thought of what you want to do today, otherwise you wouldn't have asked me if I'm free to spend the day with you.”

​“There's this horror movie exhibit I'd like to go -” Skylar's words cut off with the way she saw Rylee look at her with an expression of horror on her face, and with the way her older sister made a groaning sound as Rylee listened to what Skylar wanted her to do today. “Are you serious, Rylee? Making such a childish sound and looking at me like I've lost my mind by asking you to come with me to enjoy something I want to do?”

​“Oh, come on, Sky.
